Planning For Marriage

Once You Have Decided To Get Married Then We Suggest The Following Steps:
Step 1: Begin The Search For A Suitable Partner
  1. Be very clear in your mind the type of person you need. The physical attributes, the job, the spiritual, social and mental qualities that you look for, etc.
  2. Pray to God everyday to get such a person as your partner.
  3. Find out a good matrimonial site and register yourself.Before paying for any such site ask your married friends or other experienced people about the usefulness of the site. Take a trial run before subscribing.
  4. Get the support of your relatives and friends whom you can trust in finding a suitable partner.

Step 2: Prepare Yourself For The New Life
  1. Learn more about relationships,communication, emotions, inter-personal skills,parenting, etc. For this read books on the topics, search the web, discuss with elders.
  2. Develop healthy life styles and get rid of your bad habits. Although this might take time, the sooner the better.
  3. Make a study about the arrangements to be made for the wedding. Take an approximate idea about the cost that may involve, the list of people you may have to invite, the arrangements to be made for church, reception venue, food, wedding dress, etc.

Step 3: Attending The Marriage Preparation Course

Book your seats well in advance, after going through the guidelines given. If you have already found out and fixed your partner, we would suggest that both of you attend the course together.

Step 4: Church Formalities
  1. Visit the parish priest and ask for a “free state certificate” if you are getting married elsewhere. Ask the parish priest about other documents and requirements for marriage.
  2. Before finalising the date of engagement and marriage, check the availability of the priest(s) to conduct the marriage and the availability of the venue.

Step 5: The Wedding Ceremony
  1. Try to keep the ceremony as simple as possible.
  2. Be punctual
Step 6: Civil Registration Of Marriage
  1. It has become a legal requirement to register all marriages with the local Civil Authorities within a stipulated time after marriage in addition to the registration at the church at the time of the wedding ceremony. Enquire about the requirements for this from the church where you got married and complete the formalities without delay.
